Universal Audio Volt 2 Max Overview

The Universal Audio Volt 2 Max represents a compact 10-in/4-out USB audio interface developed by the creators of Universal Audio’s acclaimed Apollo line. Its tone-shaping preamps enable the application of tube, solid-state, or British Class A coloration with a single button press, while the integrated Max compression delivers impact across all sources during recording sessions, offering 18 distinct character combinations for achieving substantial, professional-quality sound. Furthermore, Auto-Gain functionality automatically calibrates your levels for optimal balance, Clip Protection safeguards against unexpected peaks to maintain recording integrity across all takes, and the full-color Smart Display delivers comprehensive visual information regarding inputs and levels.

Operating via USB bus power, the Universal Audio Volt 2 Max maintains compatibility with Mac, Windows, iPad, and iPhone platforms, enabling your studio environment to remain portable and accessible. The package includes an extensive collection of UAD plugins and instruments, complemented by the prestigious LUNA Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Whether documenting spontaneous creative moments or undertaking comprehensive recording, mixing, and mastering endeavors, the Universal Audio Volt 2 Max furnishes the essential tools, capabilities, and command required for achieving professional-grade, refined audio output.

The tone-shaping preamps impart distinctive character to every recording session.

The Universal Audio Volt 2 Max features dual tone-shaping preamps capable of delivering up to 60 decibels of gain, with each preamp providing three distinct character modes: Warmth emulates the warm, rounded quality characteristic of tube preamps, Focus delivers the precision and clarity associated with solid-state designs, and Shine provides the expansive, elevated response of a British Class A amplifier circuit. The integrated Max Processing system incorporates onboard compression functionality with six selectable push-button presets tailored for vocals, guitars, and bass, drawing from the sonic characteristics of the LA-2A and 1176 compressors, thereby enabling 18 unique character combinations.

Each channel features independent 48-volt phantom power capability, permitting the use of premium condenser microphones, while 32-bit converters operating at sampling rates up to 192 kilohertz ensure that every subtle detail of the performance is faithfully preserved. To achieve recordings that possess the professional depth and richness of studio productions rather than the limited quality of preliminary demos, simply engage the recording function and allow the Universal Audio Volt 2 Max to manage the audio processing.

Automatic Gain Adjustment and Peak Limiting for Precise Audio Leveling

Recording engineers recognize that gain staging management can be time-consuming; however, the Universal Audio Volt 2 Max delivers essential tools and capabilities that enable you to concentrate exclusively on your performance. The Auto-Gain feature establishes your recording levels within seconds, while Clip Protection safeguards against unexpected signal peaks that could compromise a successful recording. The comprehensive color Smart Display presents your input sources, signal levels, configuration options, and gain reduction values instantaneously, making channel selection and preamp mode confirmation straightforward.

The device accommodates two microphone/line combination inputs and two front-panel high-impedance instrument inputs, allowing simultaneous capture of vocals and guitar or stereo keyboard recording. MIDI Input and Output connections facilitate integration with your controllers and synthesizers, and an ADAT or S/PDIF optical input expands your system with up to eight supplementary digital channels. The Universal Audio Volt 2 Max seamlessly interfaces with the UAD Console application and LUNA for project recall functionality and reduced-latency monitoring mixes. All essential parameters are accessible through simple button or mouse activation, guaranteeing that your recording sessions remain focused on creative music production rather than equipment adjustment and menu navigation.

Capture, broadcast, and combine audio from any location

The Universal Audio Volt 2 Max operates entirely through USB power, enabling you to establish a recording environment wherever creative ideas emerge: simply attach your laptop, tablet, or smartphone and commence recording. Volt 2 Max maintains compatibility with Mac, Windows, iPad, and iPhone platforms, and integrates seamlessly with all prominent digital audio workstations. The integrated loopback functionality enables you to merge live microphone input with audio from your computer for podcasts, live broadcasts, and video conferencing—an invaluable feature for those producing digital content.

Dual headphone outputs and an integrated communication microphone facilitate collaborative recording sessions, whether your partner is positioned in the main control area or an isolated recording space. Furthermore, the bundled UAD Volt Studio collection delivers premium synthesizer, processing, and support plugins including the Teletronix LA-2A, the 1176 Classic FET Compressor, Pure Plate Reverb, Galaxy Tape Echo, and two UAD guitar amplifiers, complemented by LUNA and additional third-party software such as Melodyne Essential. As a comprehensive portable recording facility contained within a single unit, the Universal Audio Volt 2 Max remains an exceptional choice.
